Double The Drama at Stage One Theatre

Sometimes good things come in pairs and this is certainly true at Stage One Theatre in Emba this October. The Company presents a double bill of two contrasting works. ‘Black Comedy’ by famous writer Peter Shaffer (Amadeus, Equus etc) and a curtain raiser ‘What Happens Next ?’ by Sian Williams, already a published author and now a member of Stage One. Sian has written this short play especially for the Company and it is sure to provoke discussion after its premiere. Caroline Harman Smith directs the small cast.

Sian Williams directs the farce Black Comedy, described by the Daily Telegraph as a ‘lark in the dark’.

The double bill will run from Wednesday October 3rd until Saturday 5th October. Tickets are 12 euros with concessions for students 6 euros. The box office opens on Monday 9th September.

Booking may be made by email at any time on boxoffice@stageonetheatre.com or call 99967737 between 10 a.m and 1 p.m from 9th September Monday to Friday or visit the booking office at the theatre on Mondays and Fridays only from 9th September between 10-12 noon.

This production is dedicated to and sponsored by the late Paul Minvalla, a long time supporter of Stage One. Sadly Paul left us this year after a short illness and he is greatly missed.

Many of the members of Stage One have been working for years to keep live drama alive in Paphos. The company does not imitate existing personalities like tribute singers but seeks to provide genuine interpretations of excellent plays. Stage One sets and costumes have earned considerable praise over the years, all down to a dedicated team of set builders, painters and wardrobe enthusiasts.

The actors rehearse three times a week for a minimum of six weeks, time which they give freely and with enthusiasm. It is no exaggeration to say that each production requires the best efforts of the whole team and at the after-show lunch all the members of that team feel a sense of loss, until the next week of course when it all starts again.

Why do they do this? There is no entertainment better than live theatre and Stage One members are dedicated to continue bringing it to Paphos. They cannot do this without the help of their theatre going supporters. So become one, give it a try. Contribute a skill you may already have like sewing, woodwork, painting, sound and light engineer etc.

Become a member and have some input. Learn a new skill, unleash your inner actor. The Company understands that not every play pleases everyone. They never will, but do not be ‘put off’ by something which does not immediately attract. Give it a chance.
