The Paphos Post are delighted to be able to bring you news of a fantastic new community project aimed at promoting health and wellbeing through singing and music.
Many of you may have come across local musician and teacher Melanie Ballard when she performs in the area in various solo and group collaborations and with her ladies choir that she directs- B Sharp. Melanie has recently been studying music therapy for health conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Parkinson’s, Lung Conditions, Cancer, Strokes and Anxiety and Depression. Singing and music classes to help those affected by such conditions are ever growing in the UK and are proving to be massively beneficial to help lift mood, provide social interaction and work on motor skills, memory and breath support- to name just a few benefits.
Melanie recently completed her studies as a sing for health practitioner and was lucky enough to establish sponsorship from Blevins Franks, Top Quotes, Your Rehab Care and the UKCA club so that she could offer a weekly class completely free of charge to the local community, which is fantastic!! Currently the group covers all conditions in one health class with exercises, vocal and breathing activities, rounds, rhythm and movement and general song repertoire. Melanie does hope that one day perhaps there can be several classes focusing on specific health conditions but this class is the first of its kind in Cyprus and she is extremely grateful to the sponsors and support for making this happen.
The class meets on Thursday mornings at the UKCA club at 11.15am and for more information you can call 96552901 or visit the sing 4 health Facebook page. Melanie also runs preschool classes from age 6 months and is also always looking for any ladies who love singing and would like to be part of local choir BSharp. Singing is so good for the soul and she is passionate about bringing as much music and happiness as possible.
