The Paphos regional board of tourism continues to promote the area as a Smart Destination, suitable for all sorts of holiday and breaks.
As a partner of the DESTI-SMART project, representatives recently participated at the 4th thematic workshop on “Cycling and Walking at Tourist Destinations” which took place online in Riga, Latvia.
The DESTI-SMART Interreg Europe project involves 10 partners, including Cyprus, and promotes the transition to a low carbon economy through efficiency, durability, multi modality, new carbon offsets and cycling promotion, they announced.
Today, emissions in the EU exceed the levels of the 1990’s, and transport accounts for 30% of total emissions. It is estimated that in the coming years there will be a dramatic demand for electric mobility, due to the need to reduce and improve greenhouse gas emissions and air quality, the tourist board said.
The project is expected to be completed in November 2022, and the Paphos regional board of tourism will deal mainly with the issues of mobility, low emissions and transportation systems, accessibility and Improvement in cycling and hiking facilities for sustainable tourism development of the destination, a spokesman concluded.
