The local authority of Kouklia, Paphos, have been awarded a European distinction in the ECTN (European Cultural Tourism Network) awards, for the introduction of an app by the Paphos regional board of tourism, which highlights the myth of Aphrodite at Petra tou Romiou.
“This is another distinction and another step in the direction towards making Paphos an even more “smart” destination,” a spokesman for the tourist board said.
This year the general theme of the ECTN Awards was: “Development and promotion of tourism of special interests based on Cultural Heritage”, Kouklia and Paphos in general were distinguished in the category “Innovation and digitization in sustainable cultural tourism, for creating destinations,” he added.
The Myth of Aphrodite app, which is free to users, and unique in Cyprus, highlights the myth of Aphrodite, and may be downloaded from both Google and Apple online stores.
After downloading the app, users may scan relevant photos of Aphrodite in three different places on the beach at Aphrodite rock, Petra tou Romiou, to enjoy Aphrodite in a real environment through their smart devices.
“The Paphos tourism board will continue to strengthen the efforts to upgrade our product and experiences in order to further benefit the destination. This award adds to and highlights the advantages of Paphos as a destination from other competitors,” he concluded.
