Cyprus Residency Planning Group – Your Questions Answered

What is the final cut off date for UKN’s, who moved here prior to 31 December 2020, to apply for MUKW residency documents as a CRPG client?

CRPG will close off residency applications on 30 June – so it is advisable to contact CRPG Help Desk by 14 June 2021.

Will the CRPG Help Desk continue to offer advice and support for UKN’s?

Yes, the CRPG Help Desk will continue to operate until the end of September 2021

Where will UKN’s go for advice after the Help Desk closes?

There is always plenty of advice and help on the British High Commissions’ Living in Cyprus Guide which can be found on the GOV UK website www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-cyprus

Will people still be able to apply for the MUKW1, 2 or 3 going forward?

Only if that person arrived, or was resident, in Cyprus prior to the end of the Withdrawal Agreement, i.e. 31 December 2020 and has documentary evidence to support their application – the CRPG Help Desk can advise on this. (It is worth mentioning here that if you have either MEU1,2 or MEU3 it is not obligatory to change it to the new MUKW system)

What will they apply for if not?

They will have to apply under Category F as a Third Country National – please refer to the Ministry of Interior website www.moi.gov.cy for more information.

Is this something that CRPG can help with?

No, the remit of CRPG was (and is) to assist UKN’s who meet the criteria (as set by the FCDO UK Nationals’ Support Fund) to apply for residency under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement i.e. MUKW1 (formerly MEU1) and MUKW3 (formerly MEU3)

To register with Gesy what do I need?

You either need to have a residency document as above, or worked here and paid into Social Insurance or an original Alien Registration Document.

And do I still need to get an S1 from the UK NHS?

Yes, if you are of retirement age and receiving a UK Govt Pension – please refer to the CRPG website for more information or the BHC Living in Cyprus Guide – gov.uk/guidance/living-in-cyprus

If I do apply for an S1 what about my rights to healthcare in the UK when I go back?

Applying for an S1 does not affect your rights to healthcare in the UK – when you return you inform the NHS that you wish to re-register.

If I am not registered with Gesy and do not have an S1, can I use my EHIC/GHIC in Cyprus?

Either card can be used for emergency treatment only but it does not cover treatment or the medical needs to UK Nationals who are resident in Cyprus.
