CARE DAYS has given free of charge pampering sessions to over 60 people in the Paphos District affected by cancer or bereavded through cancer since the project started 5 months ago. It is hoped to extend the Care Days Project to Limassol next year and to poorer countries who do not have the same wonderful oncology infrastructure as in Cyprus.
We want to say a VERY big thank you to our media partners, The Paphos Post and Viva Fm for their support, without which the Care Days project would not have got off the ground.
Thank you also to our ultra generous major sponsors, Markos MY Hair and Beauty Salon by Elena, who have some exciting advertising plans for 2022, The Ayii Anargyri Spa, and the Elysia Breeze restaurant.
Also a big thank you our advertising partners who have supported us through the year:
Angel Guardians, Markos MY and Hair Salon by Elena, The Amphitheatre Cafe, GLI Ioannides Honda, Centroptical Opticians, Cyprus Living, Charlotte Graphic and Website Designer and Martika’s Kitchen.
The support from CPSG, Pasykaf, the Paphos Bereavement Group, Dr. Christalla and the staff at the Evengelismos and Professor Astra and the staff at the St George oncology centre together with the wonderful testimonials from Care Days patients and friends, has kept Care Days going.
Good news, the Annabelle Hotel is hoping to stay open through the year and Care Days patients who have booked with us, are able to use the wonderful indoor spa swimming pool, with one of the best views of Paphos harbour.
Finally, Andrew, the Founder of Care Days would like to share a very personal experience with those of you who have been diagnosed with cancer, as it shows the power of God at a time of despair and is a very positive Christmas message.
“After four melanomas, the final one got me and decided to metastasise, but I was very, very lucky. Firstly my surgeon operated just before Christmas two years ago to remove the fourth melanoma very quickly and it was obvious from the speedy growth and size of it that it was not going to be a good result. He got the biopsy through in record time and my oncologist Dr.Christalla managed to get rapid approval for the marvellous immunotherapy treatment every 3 weeks for 2 years.
Everyone treats a diagnosis of cancer differently, but I can never thank Dr. Christalla enough for the consoling and upbeat way in which she talked to my wife and I about the diagnosis and the care she has given me and all her cancer patients since then.
Between the initial excision, PET scan and diagnosis, my mind was in a turmoil, because, like a fool I looked it up on Google and the survival figures are not too positive.
So…..I did what I always do when stressed and went for a very long walk along the seashore, head down, shoulders hunched, a picture of depression.
Then after about an hour, I looked out to sea and suddenly I felt what can only be described as a wave going right through my body and I KNEW, I just KNEW that I was going to be OK and started smiling. I know that I was touched by a good angel that day and because of that experience I have stayed positive ever since. So, for the nearly 600 people in the Paphos District who are likely to be diagnosed with cancer in 2022, I hope that my experience is one that will give you hope as we start a new year soon.
Again, I was very lucky because after one year of therapy I was in remission bearing in mind that out of the 576 people in the Paphos District who were diagnosed with cancer in 2020, 270 died and it was because I wanted to give something back to those less fortunate than myself. Charlotte who has done all the graphic and website designing, and very generously handles all the administration, set up Care Days with me.
So from something bad…….something good will always emerge.
