“Caritas Cyprus” are in the process of organising, creating and running a Bio Diversity/Organic Food Production System, which essentially will become a Vegetable and Fruit Farm in Paphos.
Neil McCormick told the Paphos Post that this project will be led by two qualified volunteers both living permanently in Cyprus. It is anticipated that up to 10 additional committed people will be given the opportunity to assist on this project. Their reward will be to receive education and training in modern healthy agricultural processes and procedures. In addition, it is hoped that participants will gain expertise and experience that will enable them to become self-sufficient in terms of growing their own food.
The land to carry out this project has been offered by a kind Landlord at a very realistic rent, which ensures the viability of the project. This land will be converted using Bio Diversity/Organic methods. High yield fruit and vegetables will be grown, which they intend giving away to the needy and poor in our community within Paphos.
Neil also said that we have not fully priced everything in terms of buying or renting, but it is anticipated that the following will be needed in the first year of the project: – Rotavators, spades, forks, saws, wheelbarrows, poly tunnels, netting and an irrigation system.
In addition, we recognise we need a waterproofed secure storage unit built on the site. We welcome any old garden tools not required anymore and/or additional support.
€1,500.00 has already been given by a donor to this Project, but we need donations of additional funds to make this project viable quicker.
