{"id":523,"date":"2019-09-11T09:36:11","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T09:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thepaphospost.com\/?p=523"},"modified":"2019-09-01T10:43:54","modified_gmt":"2019-09-01T10:43:54","slug":"paphos-welcomes-new-sculpture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepaphospost.com\/index.php\/2019\/09\/11\/paphos-welcomes-new-sculpture\/","title":{"rendered":"Paphos Welcomes New Sculpture"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Bejay Browne.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new sculpture of a young girl by renowned Paphos artist Yiota Ioannidou was placed outside a children\u2019s play area in the heart of Paphos old town in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Titled, \u2018The Circle,\u2019 it depicts a small girl who holds her toy in her hands, a hula hoop, which references a special identity and a cultural reference to the city that is being recreated, said the artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was gifted to Paphos by Chinese businessman, Henry Jiang, who said he wanted to give something back to Paphos, the new home that he and his family love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statue was placed at the entrance of a new children\u2019s playground opposite the recently-renovated Ibrahim\u2019s Khan, in the heart of Paphos\u2019 old town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It already looks set to provide great photo opportunities for families visiting the new park, Ibrahim\u2019s Khan and the old town in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople already seem happy about it and were taking photos whilst I was there,\u201d Ioannidou told the Paphos Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018The Circle\u2019, is the fourth sculptural composition by the Paphos-born artist to be placed in the town, The Girl with a Sparrow, The Little Fisher Boy and Sol Alter, a homage to Aphrodite, attract hundreds of visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another of her sculptures is found in Argaka and honours rural mothers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Bejay Browne.
