Peyia Municipality has followed the move of many other areas and has established a special department to aid residents unable to get necessities from supermarkets and pharmacies, in the coronavirus pandemic that is gripping Cyprus.
They have also set up a team to check the restrictions currently in place to contain the spread of coronavirus are being followed . They will check that no one gathers in public areas such as parks, beaches or squares and will also check businesses such as supermarkets.
Residents of Peyia may also contact the municipality weekdays from 8.30am to 2.30pm if they need help with forms permitting them to leave the house.
Paphos municipality also launched a department set up specifically for the purpose of helping any elderly or vulnerable groups living in Paphos, with a dedicated number for them to call. Municipality staff will take care of callers, visiting pharmacies or supermarkets to undertake the necessary shopping and delivering supplies to their homes.
Michalis Pavlides the mayor of Geroskipou, said: “In the difficult times we are experiencing, the municipality of Geroskipou stands next to its citizens.”
“We are getting people whatever they need, as our centre for the elderly is closed. We can get their shopping and deliver it, and the manager is there to call if people need anything,” he said.
The mayor of Polis, Giotis Papachristofi said that along with municipal staff, he is at the disposal of any residents in need of help with shopping or medicines.
“We are here for them and must all support each other,” he said.
